About the Troop
We are a troop made up of many scouts and have many scouting activities
available to all scouts.

You must be 11 years old to join a boy scout troop. There are many scouts all over the world, and it is a very prestigious, significant, and fun-filled program to be part of. If you in Bergen County, New Jersey and interested in joining a boy scout troop, feel free to contact us!

Boy Scouts take part in many fun activities throughout the year. When you become a boy scout you could go camping and go on other fun trips!
Camping
When joining Boy Scout Troop 17 you have the opportunity to go camping with other scouts, involving many activities, which make your weekends long lastingand fun!
Hiking
Troop 17 goes on hikes during camping trips and also does hikes on weekends as a troop. Usually hikes are 4-20 miles long and on camping trips scouts cook a meal to bring with them on the hike.
Water Sports
Our Troop is fond of going on water sports, such as kayaking, water rafting, and canoeing. We also go on swimming trips and do many of these activities at Nobebosco summer camp as well.
Target Sports
We have some great marksmans in our troop. Our troop enjoys improving on our rifle shooting and archery skills when going on some camping trips.
Zip Lining and Biking
As adventurous scouts, we love going zip lining and doing other freightening, but rewarding activities. We have also done biking marathons which are extremely tiring, but again rewarding. Most scouting activities are very tiring, but its a great experience at the end of the day.
Learning Essential Skills
Essential skills are very important, and scouting can help you earn them. These skills include: character, leadership, citizenship, fitness, first aid, aquatics, learning about the nature, outdoor ethics, hiking, camping, cooking, navigation, working with tools, and personal safety awareness.

Boy Scouts is the largest youth organization in the United States, awarding Eagle Scouts such as Neil Armstrong, Michael Mauler (CEO of GameStop), Sam Walton (Founder of Walmart), Steven Spielberg (Director), Michael Bloomberg (Founder of Bloomberg L.P.), William Hanna (Director of Flintstones), and Lawrence Bacow (President of Harvard).

How much money does scouting cost?
A BSA membership fee is around $150 per scouting year and changes yearly. Individual camping trip fees aren’t included with the yearly fee.

Where does my son have to live to join Troop 17?
Your son should live around Bergen County, so that it is not a huge commute to come to the weekly activities.

How often do you participate in camping and other activities?
Camping is usually once a month, volunteering and other activities vary by the different opportunities.
